Guangzhou / China
From 24.03. to 4.4.2003 I had my first business trip to Guangzhou
in southern china, province Guangdong. There we have built the
second subway line of the city. On this page I would like to show
you some fotos, I took there.

Pond and waterfall in the lobby of
our hotel, the "White Swan".
Unfortunately during our stay it was very hazy in the town nearly
all of the time, so that the fotos are not as brillant as I wished
them to be. This will be obvious to you, if you compare them to
the fotos I took in Bangkok.
The following fotos I took in the environment of our place
of work, the OCC (Operation Control Center).
Memorial Hall for Sunyatsen.
Sunyatsen lived from 1866 to1925 and was a chinese party leader.
After the fall of the Mandschu Dynasty (1911) he was the president
of the republic for a short time.

The following fotos I took in a park that was somewhat larger. It
was located behind the Memorial Hall, a little more distant from
the OCC:
Liu Rong Pagoda and Temple

From 20.11. to 30.11.2003 I was in Guangzhou for the second time. This
time the weather was fine for taking fotos.
Ancestral temple of the Chen family
Chen Jia Si, the ancestral temple of the Chen family, is a
combination of traditional chinese buildings that was built
form 1890 to 1894 by the Chen family. This family was one of the
richest in chinese history. The buildings are considered to be the
largest and best preserved ancient architecture in Guangdong province.
The complex now houses the Guangdong Folk Art Museum.

Night at the Pearl River

Eating the noodles
These noodles are a traditional food in southern china. The chinese
expression for them means "Long Life" - chinese people say, when you
eat them at your birthday you will have a long life.

Thanks to Kaye Ngan and Hua Tong who prepared the chinese texts
for me
Thanks to Peter Gebhardt for some fotos
